Anthropic, the company behind Claude AI chatbot, is set to launch a new “voice mode” feature this month, according to MacRoumers. This update will give Claude three English-language voices named Airy, Mellow, and Buttery, allowing you to have real-time spoken conversations with the AI assistant. The feature, discovered by app researcher M1Astra through references in Anthropic’s iOS app code, arrives nearly a year after OpenAI released a similar capability for ChatGPT.

Anthropic’s chief product officer Mike Kreiger has been developing this as an internal prototype, clearly aiming to compete with OpenAI’s voice assistant technology while making Claude more interactive and versatile for everyday users.

Along with voice capabilities, Claude is getting deeper integration with Google’s productivity tools. This means you’ll soon be able to use Claude with several Google services:

  • Gmail – summarize emails and draft replies using natural language
  • Google Calendar – pull meeting notes and schedule events without app switching
  • Google Docs – create documents directly through Claude’s interface

These features are designed to streamline your workflow, boost productivity, and help you manage communications without constantly jumping between different apps.

If you’re wondering who’s behind Claude, Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers Dario and Daniela Amodei. Unlike many tech companies, Anthropic operates as a public benefit corporation with a strong focus on ethical AI development.

The company has raised an impressive $7.3 billion in funding, including $4 billion from Amazon, and uses what they call a “Constitutional AI” framework to ensure their AI systems remain aligned with human values. This voice mode feature represents Anthropic’s continued effort to challenge OpenAI’s dominance in the conversational AI space while maintaining their commitment to responsible innovation.

With these updates, Claude is evolving from a text-only chatbot into a more comprehensive assistant that can handle both voice and text interactions across your digital workspace.
