  • Vodafone Idea suffered a major network outage across Indian cities.
  • Technical issue disrupted calls, texts, and mobile data services.
  • Network services restored within hours; specific cause details undisclosed.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) users faced problems with their mobile service early morning on April 18, 2025, according to LatestLY. The network stopped working around 12:30 AM, making it impossible for people to make calls, send text messages, or use mobile data. The good news is that Vi fixed the problem within a few hours.

The network problem affected more than 1,940 users who reported issues on Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages. Many frustrated customers also shared their problems on social media platforms. Users couldn’t do basic things with their phones like:

  • Make or receive phone calls
  • Send or receive text messages
  • Use mobile internet data

The outage hit many cities across India, but it was felt most strongly in North India. These cities had the most problems:

  • Delhi and surrounding areas (Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad)
  • Major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, and Hyderabad
  • Other affected places included Coimbatore, Lucknow, Chhindwāra, Ghazīpur, and Varanasi

What caused this big problem? Vi experienced what experts call a “core network failure.” Think of it like the main engine of a car breaking down – when this central part stops working, nothing else works either. The problem was likely caused by either broken equipment (hardware) or a problem with the computer programs (software) that run the network. This made it impossible for phone signals and internet data to reach where they needed to go.

Vi’s technical team worked quickly to fix the issue. They solved the problem by rerouting traffic (sending signals through different paths) and by getting the main systems back up and running. The company hasn’t shared exactly what went wrong, but they did confirm that they fixed the technical issue and restored all services within hours.

This kind of network problem can make customers unhappy and might make some people think about switching to other mobile companies. Network reliability is very important for mobile users who depend on their phones for daily communication, work, and entertainment. Vi will need to make sure such problems don’t happen again to keep their customers’ trust.
